Welcome From The Trustees

News

The Trustees of MKT will keep you updated with news and events over the coming season.

The Heritage Centre was due to open for the 2020 season in early May but due to Covid-19, the Heritage Centre is closed and is expected to remain so throughout 2020.

We are planning new exhibitions for the new season ahead:

  • Refreshing the displays which will now include "A Journey Through Time" of our local area and updated research on some of the local families and prominent figures.

Some new displays including:

  • The Reverend Alexander Duff, Victorian missionary and educator left Auchnahyle and Balnakeilly for the warmer climes of India and managed to get himself and his new wife shipwrecked, twice! We hope to be able to display some details of him and the ships “Lady Holland” (wrecked in South Africa) and the “Moira” (ran aground on the Hooghly but salvaged) when we do open.
  • This will berth alongside a new display about the barque (a four-masted sailing ship) Pitlochry built in Dundee in 1894 to carry “nitrates” from Chile to Europe. In 1903 she held the record for the fastest trip from Chile to Europe round Cape Horn.
  • A post lock-down visit to Edinburgh, should give us photographic evidence of the Ballinluig Elephant which will be part of a display on Ballinluig and our next-door parish.

In normal season, the Centre opening hours are daily from 2pm until 4pm. Entry charge is £3 per person. No charge for children under 16 years of age accompanied by an adult. All current MKT members may enter for free.

There is a regular local bus service in Pitlochry and a bus stop is within a few minutes walk of the Heritage Centre in Moulin Square. When we re-open, Old Oak Genealogy will continue to be at the Centre on Monday afternoons. Moulin Yarns will provide a live spinning demonstration on Monday afternoons.
